Nurture Top Tips Week 9 – Distraction and Problem Solving
Welcome to Week 9 of the Nurture group.
This week in our Nurture Group we have been discussing the art of distraction. This can be tricky to do with children of all ages!
It’s important to think about what your child wants to do and why they may be presenting the challenging behaviour. This can support you to solve the problem. Are they hungry? Bored? Annoyed? Without addressing the behaviour, distract your child with the solution to the problem they may be having. For example, a snack if they’re hungry, another activity if they’re bored or just helping you with what you’re doing. Children often love taking responsibility.
Take a look at our practice sheets and have a go at home.
